A stroke is caused by a lack of blood flow to the brain, and a heart attack is caused by a lack of blood flow back to the heart. This lack of blood flow can be caused or aggravated by many factors, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, poor diet, and a lack of exercise.
